105k mile plug interval? What say you Oppo?

Acura says the spark plug interval on the MDX is 105k miles. Thats seems awfully long. I remember when plugs were recommended every 30k miles. Wasted money? Or change em now (currently at 75k miles)?

whats a set of plug, $80? if you feel that yes, you can use new plugs, go for it.

I wouldnt. advances in fuel and the way engines are designed, id leave them alone.

105k sounds right for modern plugs. Hell, I remember when oil was 3000 miles, no ifs ands or buts. Now we're looking at 10-15k between changes. Technological advances are great.

My car still oils at 3k. Despite being an 03. But yeah plugs about 100k miles sounds correct.

I'm worried when 105k miles comes they might be hard to get out after being in there so long. A friend of mine recently tried to change his at 100k miles in his F150 and 2 of the plugs broke in half. The threaded end remained in the head, but the top including the part your socket contacts broke off. Now IDK if that was some type of manufacturing defect, or if the lower half was corroded into place. I guess as long as the forums don't mention changing them beforehand it isn't an issue. If it was common I'd imagine there would be a sticky about it.

I've seen a lot of Blackstone oil analysis that prove going over 10k miles is not a good thing. I suppose most engines will outlast the original buyers ownership doing 10k+ mile changes though. If you don't plan on keeping it till 150k miles it's probably woney wasted to change it sooner, but what about the next guy?

30k? Used to be points, condenser, rotor, cap AND plugs every 12K...along with a full chassis lube.

I believe it. I still tend to not go over 5000 on modern vehicles, and the old cars still get changed at 3000. BMW recommends 15k and they don't even give you a dipstick anymore.

That's because the rod bearings will fail even if you change it every 3k miles. Lol

The F150 had a bad plug design and those are recomended to be changed at around 60k, or at least the tune guy I worked with would say that. Those plugs like to break.

If your car uses platinum plugs 100k is perfectly reasonable for a change. Your plugs will end up costing you about $15-20 a pop so if you feel like changing them, do it. It is your money and your car, so do as you feel.

Iridium plugs are 'supposed' to last for 100,000. If you don't know what kind they are, I would pull one out and inspect it; change if needed. If they are Iridium/Platinum, I see no problem waiting till the 100k mark.
